Post weld heat treatment
For the construction of 4 storage tanks in the renewal of the battery by-product plant in Arcelor Mittal in Gijón, heat treatment was required for all tank welds, including both the horizontal 9-metre-diameter collars as well as the vertical ones. Approximately 1,500 metres of weld.
Before the process, a finite study process was carried out to ensure that the tanks would not be damaged or deformed due to the temperature.
The coordination between all units of the project was key to the performance of the work, since the heat treatment was carried out as the tanks were lifted, which made the task more difficult.
